Match Report vs Whitchurch
Heath 1st September 2024 @ Whitchurch Hospital (Skipper Jim,
Report Liam W)
On a wet day at the start of September, it was a game at
Whitchurch, and a return to Whitchurch saw a return of a casual
member. Kim made his return to the Cazh to face his current
team and prove to the hecklers (of which there were a few)
that it his ability didnt change when the team members did.
Skipper Jim strolled out to the middle for the toss, and
lets be honest at this point in the season there is no such
thing, its all negotiated. With that we were in to field and
with a bowling attack that looked like it had some strength,
it seemed like a logical decision.
The Ol' reliable opening pair of Dan and Goff (who just
to add was his milestone 200th appearance for the Cazh, so
well done on that you trooper) did not get off to the greatest
start as the opening batters managed to see them off with
no loss of wicket but a few maidens from dan helped the scorline
stay low.
Bowling Change. Ol' reliable to just old on came DT with
nylon pylon not far behind. The raw pace of DT mixed with
nylons unpredictability saw the batsmen confused and worried,
never knowing what type of ball they were going to be facing,
however the pair just could not find a breakthrough and whitchurch
were starting to look like they were never going to break.
Stagg and Owens on to join the attack,a tricky few overs
from Stagg who just could not find his rhythm saw him go for
a high number of runs in a very short period of time and was
eventually replaced by P.Dean. Ownes' on the spot bowling
provided the stability for P.Dean to explore his arsenal and
bring out some wicket balls, which he did. P.Dean took 4 wickets.
He may have fallen short of the 5fer but he hit is 25 wicket
milestone for the Cazh. Owens' stability had paid off with
him also taking a wicket.
With only a few wickets gone Whitchurch had made it through
the 40 scoring 238-6, a high total, but a chaseable one.
Dan Lewis hitting a milestone of 130 catches for the Cazh
saw this innings be an interesting one for those of you that
enjoy the stat porn.
D. Lewis 8-3-23-0
G. Day 8-0-38-0
D. Thomas 4-0-35-0
L.Warren 7-0-27-1
E. Stagg 3-0-44-0
R. Owens 6-0-36-1
P. Dean 5-0-21-4
The Cazh now into bat and skipper Jim and Kev Jones out to
open. A few quick fours from the skipper saw the total start
to rise at a rate the Cazh were hoping for but short lived
as the opening pair out for a total of 26. The young K. Jones
in at 3 and the returning hero Kim Swain in at 4. One man,
not playing that day, was keeping one eye on the score card
and one eye on his pregnant wife, praying that if anything
was going to be broken that day it would only be his wife's
waters. Kim Swain or Anchorman you take your pick as he stood
tall whilst wickets were falling all around him. Not a good
showing whatsoever from the Cazh.
Whith the batsmen number rising higher so was K.Swain's score.
G.Day in. Only 3 things to mention here. 1. second highest
scorer with 29. 2. reached the 1000 run milestone for the
Cazh (2 milestones in one game, impressive!!) 3. danced down
the wicket like a knob giving his wicket away. With the end
looking nye all eyes turned to K.Swain with his score getting
close to that tonne whilst hitting the milestone 175 6's for
the Cazh. Unfortunately K.Swain could not reach that elusive
100 leaving Will.M.W the leader of most 100's and thankful
that nothing was broken for him that day. A nice return for
K.Swain let down by a poor performance by the Cazh and another
loss in the record book, being all out for 210.
