Match Report vs Hawks 6th August 2024 @ Wenvoe (Skipper Jim, Report Liam F)

Next up for the Casuals after defeat against Chepstow was a home game at Wenvoe.

The Casuals were in to bat first with Skipper Jim winning the toss. Opening the batting continuing win from the good opening display against Chepstow was Skipper Jim Hodkinson and Liam Forster. Unfortunately ending much soon with Jim getting bowled in the 2nd ball of the innings for 0. In next was Will Mason-Wilkes. Will and Liam looked steading and pick up the runs against a decent bowling attack. Will started to really tee off and wasn’t long before he was close to retirement once again including 2 maximums as he got into his 40’s. Will finished off his innings and retired with a 4 runs to take him to 52 not out. While Will was hitting at a very fast rate, Liam was plodding along and into his 20’s. In next was Rhys at 4 who started off well with a couple of quick singles and doubles and 4 but was sadly caught out 10 runs, with Liam on 30 runs and with the total at 114 - 2. Next in was Dan Lewis at 5. After a quick 2 fours from Liam, Dan was caught out for 0. In Next was Ed Stagg who hit a lovely double on his first ball of the innings but was sadly bowled a few balls later. Next in to give it a swing was SteveO who only lasted the a couple of balls before being caught out. Next in was Liam Warren who like SteveO last only the two balls before being bowled out by the Hawks bowler who claimed his 4th wicket of the match and 3rd of the over. Casuals finished the innings 128 / 6

James Hodkinson - 0
Liam Forster - 38* Not Out
Will Mason-Wilkes - 52* Retired
J. Rhys Davies - 10
Dan Lewis - 0
Ed Stagg - 2
Steve O’Reilly - 0
Liam Warren - 0

EXTRAS: 26 (2b, 2lb, 20w, 2nb)
Total: 128 (20 Overs, 6 Wickets)

Casuals opened the bowling with the seam bowling of Dan Lewis and the spin of Dave Thomas. The Caz started off we keeping the runs low and was soon after DT got the opening wicket bowling out there opener for 18 with the Score 19-1. With only 3 runs added to there total Dan Lewis bowled out the other opening batsmen for 1 run. A good start for the Casuals but there next two batsmen started to eat away at our total. Towards the end of the spells for our opening batsmen DT managed to get the next breakthrough with an excellent stumping from Skipper James Hodkinson leaving the Hawks almost halfway to the total at 62-3. With Dan and DT finishing there spells, into the bowling attack was Liam Warren and SteveO. Today was defiantly a day for the spin bowling with Liam’s pace not being as affective as normal. Dan Lewis picked up the next wicket of the game with a run out and once again only 3 runs late SteveO picked up another wick for the Caz bowling out the Hawks Batsmen for a duck leaving the 77-5. The Hawks captain really started to tee off and started to close down the total. Sanay came into the bowling to see if he could break through with his spin. SteveO broke through again with his second wicket of the match bowling out the batsmen for just the 3 runs. Hawks captain finished his innings retired hitting his half century with the total close to being meet. Fellow retiree Will Mason-Wilkes came into the bowling attack for SteveO but sadly it was all too late for the Caz with the Hawks hitting the total in 16 overs winning the game by 4 wickets.

Dan Lewis 4-0-35-1
David Thomas 4-0-26-2
Liam Warren 2-0-21-0
Steve O’Reilly 3-0-19-2
Sanay Goyal 2-0-18-0
Will Mason-Wilkes 1-0-8-0

Off to the Wenvoe Arms for a drink and some hit and miss Pork Scratchings.
