Match Report vs Llantwit
Fardre (previously Glamorgan) Centurions 27th June 2024 @
Llantwit Fardre (Skipper Jim, Report Jack)
A blustery evening at Llantwit Fardre/Glamorgan Centurions
(either or) began with a few latecomers, leading to a malleable
batting lineup prior to the game, which ultimately settled
once all had arrived.
Off to a steady start with Steve Biggs and Rhys facing a
competent bowling attack and a variable pitch, some nice shots,
pokes around the corner, and the odd boundary were seen before
Rhys succumbed to a ball that pretty much rolled along the
said variable pitch.
The fall of Rhys brought Will into bat. Early in Will’s
innings, there was a vigorous appeal for a caught behind,
which was ultimately denied by Steveo. This led to some rather
unsavoury scenes with the accusation of cheating being levied.
These accusations were vigorously denied and completely uncalled
for. It seemed the opposition may have forgotten they are
playing somewhat closer to the bottom of the cricketing pyramid
than the top.
Steve Biggs’ wicket fell not long after the unsavoury
incident, bringing Jack into bat. The decent bowling continued,
the outfield was quick, and Jack departed after a couple of
boundaries, not troubling the scorers much, with the Cazh
on 23-3 when Rob came to the crease.
Will started to accelerate, playing expansive shots, with
the odd boundary and a well-struck six. Rob continued to score
well, with the occasional boundary and a variety of scoring
shots, including liberal use of the dab. There was some good
running and a general increase in the run rate. Will was caught
looking for a boundary, bringing debutant Josh into bat. Josh
and Rob continued to push for runs in the last throes of the
innings, with Rob being dismissed during this period. Jim
and Josh batted out the close of the innings with an excellently
run three, and Josh ultimately being bowled with the last
ball of the innings.
Cardiff Casuals 112/6 (20 overs)
Steve Biggs - 5 - caught
Rhys - 4 - bowled
Will - 37 - caught
Jack - 9 - caught
Rob - 28 - caught
Josh Graham - 13 - bowled
Jim - 3 not out
The Nylon Pylon opened the bowling for the Cazh with some
good movement, decent pace, and the occasional wayward ball,
but to err is human. Or is it je pense, donc je suis?
DT opened from the other end, using flight and guile to bamboozle
the opposition who, despite this, still managed to score steadily
against his bowling.
DT was the first to strike, and their opening batsman was
stumped after wandering down the wicket, missing the ball
with an aggressive waft of the bat. DT struck again the very
next ball, with a well-taken catch from Rhys, but failed to
get a hat-trick. Unfortunately, there were no further wickets
taken for the rest of the game.
The opposition's opening bat began to accelerate and displayed
a frustratingly competent batting performance, reaching 50
and retiring. There were scant few chances throughout the
game. Despite the decent bowling from the Casuals, with some
good spells from both Liams and Steveo, the Cazh simply did
not score enough runs for a truly competitive total, and the
opposition batted well on a lightning-quick outfield to secure
the win.
Nylon Pylon - 3-0-27-0
DT - 4-0-19-2
Liam F - 3-0-26-0
Stevo - 3-0-21-0
