Match Report vs Ferrets
18th June 2024 @ Wenvoe (Skipper Jim, Report Rhys)
I’m sure all my match reports coincide with a big gig
in the stadium, so it makes sense that I’m doing this
one. Casuals v Ferrets, the night of the Taylor Swift concert.
It appeared that everyone who was driving in or out of Cardiff
that evening had done so before 5pm, as the traffic was non-existent,
with a lot of Blank Space on the road. It took me 15 minutes
to get to Wenvoe, which is a record by at least 10 minutes!
It had been a Cruel Summer for the Cazh so far, with not many
wins under our belt, but a chance to change the run of form
against a depleted Ferrets team.
Captain Jim – still nursing a bad finger - probably
lost the toss and we were fielding.
Dan and Maxi opened up and kept the score relatively low,
only their opening batsmen keen to play any shots. At the
other end, Maxi dismissed their #2 early on, while the opener
fell after back-to-back sixes, going for one too many, and
getting caught in the same fashion as his mate, caught by
Dan.
Dan got one of his own in the 7th over, after their #4 got
‘Wenvoed’ by a low one. 47-3 off the opening 8
overs. Did they have any batting to come? Spoiler: No.
First change DT and Pylon were very economical, with some
Gorgeous bowling that rescricted the Ferrets to just 20 from
the next 7 overs. DT picked up two wickets, including a stumping
from yours truly, and another when Steve-O managed to hold
onto a looping chance at cover, or somewhere around there.
“That’s more catches than runs this season”
was said by someone, definitely not ME! 67-5 after 15 overs.
It was left to Steve-O and Rob to clean up the Ferret’s
tail, and they did so fairly quickly. Both picking up a couple
of wickets in their respective final overs. All out (9 wickets)
for 89, with one ball left.
Dan 4-0-23-1
Maxi 4-1-22-2
DT 4-0-14-2
Liam 3-1-6-0
SteveO 2.5-0-14-2
Rob 2-0-7-2
--------------------------
On to our innings, starting with SteveB and myself opening
the batting. A relatively slow start from one end, with their
opening bowler proving difficult to hit off the square.
A different story from the other end, as both batters were
able to score freely from the Pavilion end. Making our way
to 49 from 6 overs, before I was given “out” in
the 7th over. An LBW dismissal I remember All Too Well.
I almost told SteveB to remind his namesake at the other
end that the bowler couldn’t possible get me out LBW
because of his bowling Style. Pitching outside leg and all
that. I decided not to in the end, because Steve-O must know
the rules, right? Right?
Wrong.
What followed was the worst LBW decision since Steve Bucknor
retired. Even square leg umpire said it pitched outside. Oh
well. No Bad Blood, Steve… Hopefully Karma means I will
get my revenge, maybe in the first game of the tour ;)

With me out for 22, in came Will, who was unusually slow
to get off the mark, and was caught for 2.
Robbie joined SteveB at the crease 52-2 and the pair were
able to see the game off with some Delicate shots along with
some hefty boundaries. The target reached after only 12.3
overs with plenty of Daylight left.
Steve B not out 30*
Rhys lbw 22
WMW caught 2
Robbie not out 21*
