Match Report vs Chancellor's
Court (Touring side) 23 July 2022 @ Blackweir(Skipper
Luvvers, report Cheese)
The Casuals welcomed Chancellor's Court to Blackweir Fields
on what was a stereotypical Welsh summer day with drizzly
showers punctuating the day's play. The afternoon didn't get
off to the best start with the Casuals trying and failing
to erect two gazebos provided by captain for the day Luvvers
and an ongoing football match on the outfield which showed
no sign of stopping. Eventually the footballer's departed
and having loss the toss the Casuals were put into bat.
Cheese and Alex opened the batting on a pitch which could
kindly be described as having variable bounce. The opening
bowler set about a good spell which involved 3 maidens from
his first 4 overs, with the batters targeting the other opening
bowler picking off some earlier boundaries with help from
the lighting fast outfield and short square boundary to one
side. Stevo, fielding for the opposition whilst they awaited
the arrival of their eleventh player, could barely contain
his joy as it stopped a number of good shots from Cheese in
the opening overs.
The boundaries continued to flow with a couple of lovely
sixes struck by Cheese off the first change bowler. The openers
remained at the crease together until the 17th owner until
Cheese seeking to reach his fifty was bowled for 47. That
bought will to the crease who successfully navigated the next
few overs alongside Alex until drinks were taken after the
20th over.
Looking to press on in the second half on the innings Alex
fell to the first ball after drinks attempting to come down
the wicket only to be stumped behind off a loopy spin delivery
for 39. Tesh, making a rare appearance this season due to
a persistent injury, was next out to bat with him and Will
setting about a destruction of the oppositions bowling attack
with Will striking multiple sixes and Tesh's innings punctuated
by 9 fours.
Will was the first Casual to reach 50 on the day, retiring
as agreed with the opposition prior to the start, and brining
Ram to the crease. Ram's innings didn't last long with a good
full length delivery dismissing LBW for a duck. Umapathi (one
of two players sourced by Ram to ensure the casuals could
field a full 11) wasted no time when he came to the crease
striking nice 4 of his second delivery.
Tesh was the second retiree of the day for the Casual's matching
Will's fifty after a well played innings. Jim was next out
to the bat who following the pace set by the batters prior
continued to press on striking a multiple boundaries. With
a couple of overs left Umapathi was caught trying to press
on, brining Ravi to the crease - cue Stevo's excitement as
the probability of him having a bat increased. Ravi (10no)
managed to hit a couple of 4's in his short innings with Jim
caught off the last ball of the innings much to Stevo's disgust!
The casuals finished on a respectable 252-5 off their 40
overs.
Alex 39st

Stevo, Luvvers, Dan - DNB.
Tea for the day was kindly provided by Luvvers with the Casuals
and the opposition tucking into chicken caeser salads, and
assortment of cakes and fruit. Drinks, both alcoholic and
soft, were also provided with a few beers cracked open at
the halfway interval.
Dan opening the bowling for the casuals, bowling a tight
first over which yielded no runs - sadly not an indication
of what was to come! Luvvers was the other opening bowler
on the day set about his spell with a tight first few overs
only conceding 3 boundaries and a single off his first 3 overs
and picking up a solitary maiden. Luvvers and Dan continued
there opening spell until Luvvers made the break through in
the 10th over, clean bowling the opener for 24, leaving the
tourists 50-1.
Having both completed their 6 over opening spells Luvvers
and Dan took a well earned rest with Stevo (hobbling around
due to a hamstring injury) next up to bowl for the Casuals.
Looking to press on the visitors looked to capitalise on the
short leg-side boundary picking up a couple of boundaries
in Stevo's first over before they were pegged back by a couple
of tight overs from Ravi and Stevo respectively. Ravi and
Steve continued the bowling for the 10 overs with a number
of high scoring overs punctuated by a maiden for Ravi in the
eighteenth over. Both Ravi and Steve unfortunately remained
wicketless on the day with the oppositions remaining opener
and no.3 both retiring for a well made 50no and 51no respectively
putting the visitors in a commanding position (Ed:- as both
batsmen closed in on their retirements - there were 2 difficult
dropped catches in consecutive deliveries off Steveo's bowling
put down by Dan and Ram is the deep/rain/wind).
Looking to take advantage of these retirements Ram was next
on to bowl for the Casuals taking a wicket with his third
delivery with Ravi taking a good catch at point dismissing
the no.4 for 5. Cheese assumed the bowling from the other
end but was met by two good batters who looking to seal the
victory put their foot down. After two over Ram was replaced
by Will who after an expensive first over picked up a wicket
in his second over bowling the no.5 for 29.
What followed after Will's wicket was a period of one way
traffic, despite the return of Dan and Luvvers, with the opposition
batsmen quickly picking off the remaining runs to seal victory
with their incumbent batsmen finishing on 44no and 9no respectively.
Chancellor's Court 252-3 off 35 overs.
