Match Report vs Cavaliers
16 June 2022 @ Wenvoe (Skipper Richie, report Shakey)
Wenvoe hosted the 70th match versus old friend the Cavaliers,
with Casuals ahead 28 wins to 23. Alex S and Dave opened up
against two very hard-hitting openers with Alex taking a little
stick early on. The openers maybe weren’t the most graceful
(I always preferred watching Mark Waugh but the figures would
lead you to think that Steve was the better batsman) but they
did a great job of putting pressure on the bowlers and fielders
with ball flying to all parts.
There were some half chances and two rockets were put down
with only Dave applying some control early on. Both openers
retired on 50 but Steaders kept the pressure up, ably assisted
by the number 4. At the end of the 19th over we hoped it would
be over soon with the Cavaliers on 140-0.
Dave to bowl the last and in search of a wicket. Six, one,
six, two, one and then didn’t we cheer when Dave finally
took a wicket with the last ball of the innings. No we didn’t
cheer actually. We were just relived it was over. 156-1 was
an imposing score.
Alex S 4-0-28-0
Dave 4-0-32-1
Stevo 4-0-34-0
Rob 4-0-35-0
Shakes 4-0-33-0
Rhys and Alex H set us off in pursuit. We accumulated the
runs pretty well but kept losing wickets after some positive
stuff from Jimmy and Richie. When Richie fell to leave us
at 76-4 it was up to Will and Rhys to keep the tempo up. Rhys
was playing a well-paced innings by this time, and he ticked
things over while Will went on the attack. He hit two maximums
and three boundaries in a quick-fire 29 before being stumped
with the score on 119. Rhys was run out shortly after for
a very good 41 and we were never quite able to pierce the
field enough at the end.
The target always seemed too far away as we somehow posted
147-8. The 23 extras helped.
Rhys 41, Alex H 2, Jack 7, Jim 14, Richie 10, Will 29, Rob
