Match Report vs Radyr
Dads 29 June 2021 @ Pontcanna (Skipper and report Rob)
Our second game against Radyr Dads - 6 days apart but with
a similar result. Playing at Pontcanna Fields as a Cazh ‘Home
game’ on a warm June evening. Skippers Rob and Jon went
with 20 overs as we had sun and time on our side. After losing
the toss (heads), Radyr Dads were batting.
Looking at the opposition, it felt like a re-name may be
required. The ‘Dads’ looking young and athletic,
supported by the usual Radyr Dad regulars.
Opening the bowling with Steveo behind the sticks, Dan and
Shakes got us off to a good start. Dan only went for 8 runs
off his 4 overs, and bowled their captain in his third over.
Shakes snaffled a caught and bowled and got another catch
(Ed) off a filthy half tracker. They all count! The Cazh were
in a good position on 39/3 (8 overs).
Maxi and Foxy picked up the bowling, with wickets down and
the run rate ok. Foxy skittled their number 4 and Maxi got
2 men - another catch by Ed, and bowled their danger man for
7, with one keeping a bit low.
Their no.6 had held things together through this period,
with him eventually retiring for 30 in the middle overs. The
batsmen coming were looking better than their predecessors,
with Naren (caught Rob at cow) being the lone wicket in the
final overs. The run rate picked up, with 100 runs scored
off the last 12 overs. Well done Steveo for only conceding
6 byes. 147/7 (20 overs).

Opening the batting, Ed and Ben looked to get off to a flier.
Ben was caught at cover (0) in the third over, with Rich (0)
following, bowled in the 4th. 6/2 (4 overs).
Steveo betrayed his ball counters by hanging about for 18,
including one very nice 6 over mid-wicket. He was unlucky
to be caught and bowled - it was hit hard and it was a good
catch. Rob (19) replacing him.
Ed (30) retired not long after, with Naren next up who was
bowled for 7 leaving Dan to have a whack. Rob was run out,
with Maxi next in. We were well behind the rate at this point,
needing 57 off the last 5 overs. Dan (26 n.o.) and Maxi (22)
scored quickly and it looked like we might get close, with
retirement calculations being made, it would have needed Shakes
and Tim to get the winning runs in the last over…
Maxi was caught for 22, with Shakes (0 n.o.) batting in the
last over. We came up 17 runs short, but it was a great whack
at the end to get us that close to winning against a very
good side.
