Match Report vs Radyr
Dads 23 June 2021 @ St Fagans(Skipper Rob, report Pat)
An overcast evening at St Fagans was the setting for the
Casuals entry into the Bowl for 2021, against the Radyr Dads
team (although a number of the opposition were more lads than
dads). The Dads won the toss and opted to bowl, a good decision
as some of the Casuals middle order were still on their way
to the ground as Will and Rhys went out to open. After a steady
start against some accurate bowling on an occasionally spicy
pitch, Will found the boundary several times to retire on
27 and the score on 32 in the 5th over. Unfortunately for
Richie, his arrival at the wicket coincided with the Dads’
strike bowler entering the attack, bowling round arm out swing/in
swing/leg cutters, and tempting Richie into a nick behind.
Rob came in next, and he and Rhys built the score with Rhys
retiring on 25 and the score on 77. There was then a steady
stream of boundaries and wickets, Ben caught for 1, Rob for
20, Jim a first ball duck and Dan for a quick fire 16. SteveO
and Shakey continued to build the score into the final over,
when SteveO fell for 12. What followed was an unusual sequence
of two diamond ducks, for Patrick and then Foxy, in the pursuit
of some optimistic final runs, followed by Will re-entering
for a final ball at the non-strikers end. The Casuals closed
on a solid 134 for 8 – ‘something to bowl at’.

134-8
The Casuals bowling effort started promisingly with Dan controlling
the run rate and Shakey taking the first wicket – a
swift stumping by Jim. Ben and Patrick came on at first change
and managed to ‘see off’ a couple more, although
due to them retiring rather than any wickets. At the mid way
point the Dads were slightly behind the rate at 65-1 but with
wickets in hand. Will claimed the second wicket of the innings
when a skier was held by the safe hands of SteveO, circling
round to take the catch. Despite some further tidy bowling
from Rob, Rhys and SteveO and reliable fielding all round,
a few lusty blows took the Dads within sight of the target
which they duly reached with 5 balls to spare.
