Match Report vs Medics
23 May 2019 @ St Fagans (Skipper and report Dan)
The Cazh turned up on time for our first league game at Wenvoe,
all apart from Steveo who text to say he was going to be late,
due to traffic…however, a pic of him leaving the polling
station at 6.10, potentially scuppered that old chestnut.
In the meantime, Captain Dan had won the toss for the 4th
time this season (already a record) and selected to field
first. I’m not sure it would have made any difference,
but by the time Steveo turned up the Medics opener (Hoult)
had already retired (after 4.2overs!). Dan, after being dispatched
to all areas of the field by the retiree, bowled a wicket
maiden in his second over and assisted in a run out in the
4th thrown in by Kim. Goffy was the other unbeknown sacrificial
lamb to be torn apart by the opener, with his spell going
for 50 (a record?), but he was bizarrely on for a hat-trick
in his 4th over after bowling the no3 and Keeper James taking
a catch off the no4. This paved the way for the first change
bowlers and the run rate dropped sharply. Luvvers got a wicket
first over (lbw) and the remainder of his 4 over spell went
for just 15, with batsman playing and missing a lot. DT picked
up his wicket in the 16th over stumped by James. Shakey and
Kim picked up the remaining 4 overs both doing the job and
not going for many, and Kim bowled the no9. The Medics finished
on 139-7 – which considering they were on 50 from 4
and 78 off 8 was a good result.
Dan 4-1-28-1
Goffy 4-0-50-2
Luvvers 4-0-15-1
DT 4-0-24-1
Shakey 2-0-7-0
Kim 2-0-13-1
James (1x catch; 1x stumping)
The second innings was pretty late to commence, mainly due
to the initial late kickoff and a lot of ball retrieval from
the stream – the new blue netting that had been erected
to stop the ball from going in didn’t appear to help
once in achieving its job. The Cazh opened with Luvvers and
Kim and disaster struck 4th legal ball with Luvvers playing
down the wrong line and was bowled. Jesus joined Kim. Early
on there was a lot of wides, so when the bowler got one right
it became the undoing for Jesus who also played down the wrong
line and was also bowled. 30-2 off 4. Winkie and Kim set about
building the innings and did very well – the wenvoe
track had (and continued to play the truest I’ve experienced),
but the variation of deliveries and the growing dimness meant
that they had to be alert all the time. Thigs were looking
pretty good, but in the 9th over, Kim had a rush of blood,
went after a fullish wide and top edged to the keeper. 67-3
off 9.
Richie stuck around with Winkie for a few overs, until the
introduction of Sinclair who’s bowling style suited
the conditions – not particularly quick but swinging
and dying on impact, and he proceeded to pick up a 5for. Rich
was bowled, then Steveo was out first ball, a good, but too
accurate a hit to the fielder at cover. 81-5 off 13. James
gave some impetus back with a couple of boundaries, and Goffy
lasted 3 further deliveries that over before also playing
on. 104-7. The target of at least picking up a bonus point
was set, which was reached during the mini partnership between
Dan and Winkie, until Winkie’s stay was finally put
to bed and was the 5th for Sinclair. The innings finished
with the Cazh reaching 111-8 at 8.45pm
Kim – ct32
Luvvers – b0
Jesus – b8
Andy - b27
Rich – b2
Steveo – ct0 (golden)
James – b11
Goffy - b0
Dan – Not Out 9
Mark – Not Out 2
DT - DNB
An enjoyable game, played throughout in an excellent manner
by both teams, before going off to the Wenvoe Arms for a well-deserved
pint.
