Match Report vs Chartered
Trust 04 July 2019 @ Wenvoe (Skipper and report Dan)
The weather was hot, the Cazh were down to 10 men (9 with
the late arrival of Rob), Captain Dan won the toss and decided
to field. Trust have always been a formidable team and with
the pre-season friendly in mind, Dan was expecting a tough
game. As it turned out it didn’t materialise that way.
Dan opened the bowling and wasn’t really on song, but
did pick up the wicket of the oppo skipper in the 2nd over.
DT opened from the other end and got a wicket – lbw
in the first over and bowled in the 2nd. At closure of their
spells Trust were on 35 from 8. Maxy and Shakey took over
and continued to put pressure on the batsmen, with occasional
release of a wide or no ball. The field was predominantly
deep as the outfield was vast and once the ball was past the
fielder it was difficult to catch up with it, plus we did
appear to have quite a few ‘slow movers’ in the
outfield – might have been the heat, and Kimbo behind
the stumps did well to palm down the ball rather than catch
it.
Maxy didn’t get a wicket, but shakey got a brace –
another lbw and the other bowled. He could/should have had
a caught and bowled as one the rifled back to him at pace
and his reactions took him to ground but couldn’t cling
on. At the end of their spell the score was on 75-5. Rob and
Big Willy finished off, Rob getting one bowled and Will after
getting a wicket caught by Rich at long on (which was a no
ball – so not a wicket), took a similar caught and bowled
– low to his right. Will was very happy the catch –
his celebration of throwing the ball behind him almost took
out the umpire. Trust finished on 107-8.
Dan L - 4-0-14-1
DT 4-0-16-2
Maxy - 4-0-16-0
Shakey - 4-0-24-2
Rob O – 2-0-13-1
Will G – 2-0-16-2
Extras 20 (felt like a lot more)
A low total to chase doesn’t necessarily mean an easy
chase. The ball was often staying low and the ball itself
was knackered. Rob and Kim opened and after a first ball boundary,
a first ball 5 wides the other end, and a ball released that
didn’t make the crease (at the bowlers end), Rob was
first to fall, bowled by an unexpected low straight one. 11-1.
Alex joined Kim. The pair progressed tentatively – it
was difficult to know what delivery would come next, as there
were quite a few wides, full and short deliveries –
of which some didn’t bounce and were straight. Both
progressed unscathed and in the 9th over Alex let fly with
2 x toe ended 6’s and 2 fours which accelerated the
score to 81. Alex on 46 skied one, but was put down, he then
retired next ball. Big Willy went into the middle and coaxed
Kimbo along with the winning runs scored in the 13th over.
Rob O – 1 bowled
Kim - 39no
Alex – 51 retired (no)
Will G – 3 no
Steveo (unhappy as not getting in and out again); Rich, Dan
L, Maxy, Mark and DT – DNB
An enjoyable match, though both teams struggled to come to
terms with the track – both bowling and batting. Well
done to both Alex and Kim for staying concentrated during
their time at the crease - it would have been easy to have
a swing whre the ball 'should' be rather than where is actually
was - ie low!
Then it was off to the pub to talk about tour with lots of
buffet.
