Match Report vs Eclipse
15 August 2018 @ St Fagans (Skipper and report Dan)
The weather was overcast and rain looked likely – but
never materialised. Captain Dan lost the toss again and the
Cazh were asked to field. The match was reduced to 18 overs.
Jesus turned up injured and hardly able to walk (so not much
different there), so Luvvers offered to keep. Dan opened the
bowling and got a wicket 2nd ball bowling Mike. Dave opened
from the horse field end. Eclipse tried to go large from the
off and many connected. After 6 overs, Eclipse had moved on
to 44-1, with the number 3 scoring mainly in boundaries. Paul
and Maxy were first change bowlers, Paul picked up wickets
in each of his 3 overs – first stumped off a wide, second
a very good catch taken by Kim on the boundary and the other
bowled. This meant Paul has reached the momentous milestone
of 500 wickets for the Cazh! Maxy also picked up 2 –
first caught by Dan (and injuring his left hand again), the
2nd bowled. After 12 the score on 90-5 and the No3 retired
on 50. He had given 2 chances, one that dropped short of Dan,
but maybe should have been attacked and a missed stumping.
Richie, Alex and Kim bowled 1 over a piece from the PetersonSE
end Shakey bowled his spell from the other. Shakey got a wicket
in his first – caught by Maxy at mid-on. The fielders
now wanted to just restrict runs rather than take wickets
– didn’t want the No3 to return. It appeared that
Kim either didn’t hear or didn’t listen or just
ignored, as he picked up 2 wickets in his 1 over – stumped,
then bowled. This brought Hamblin back on to face Shakey’s
last over…unfortunately the over went for 23 including
2x6’s. Eclipse finishing on 156-9.
Dan 3-0-19-1
Dave 3-0-20-0
Paul 3-0-27-3
Matt C 3-0-18-2
Richie 1-0-8-0
Shakey 3-0-37-1
Alex 1-0-15-0
Kim 1-0-6-2
A challenging total, but achievable as on paper – it
was a good batting line up (well down to 5 anyway). Kim and
Alex opened, Kim started aggressively and got a couple of
boundaries, Alex got a 4 off the first ball, but 2 balls later
came down the track to the spinner, missed and was stumped.
Luvvers joined Kim and the pair appeared to try and run each
other out as often as possible. This along with a number of
boundaries, the score rapidly increased. Kim fell in the 6th
over trying to hit 3 6’s in a row and was caught behind
the score on 61. First change brought in quick bowler Mike
and he slowed the run rate down and got the wicket of Luvvers
bowled. A non-running Jesus made it slowly out to the middle
and fair play scored almost completely in boundaries. After
11 overs the score on 94-3. The introduction to the bowling
line up of the top scoring unbeaten batsman turned the game
in favour of Eclipse. The next 5 overs went for 12 runs with
the loss of 5 wickets – all of them to him (finishing
with figures 6 for 5). Bowling quick right arm round with
a hint of swing, he got the wicket of Maxy, then in his second
took Jesus and Rob, and in his 3rd and with fading light took
Paul and Richie. Dan and Shakey batted out the final over
including a late 6 to take the score up to a respectable 120-8
at the close.
An enjoyable game and it didn’t rain, plus an excellent
fielding display throughout from the cazh, plus attacking
batting in the first half. Eclipse played well also, especially
the skipper! The Cazh joined Eclipse in the bar for a pint
before heading off home. So after the last mid-week game of
the season, the win to loss ratio back to 50:50
