Match Report vs Cavaliers
21 May 2017 (Cup) @ Wenvoe (Skipper Dan, report Paul)
Think back to May, a long time ago, it’s a decent Sunday
and on the 21st of that month we had a fixture against our
old foes the Cavaliers at Wenvoe. We had recommenced Sunday
hostilities last year after quite a break and both sides had
really enjoyed the game so here we go again.
It wasn’t hot but it was fine, I forget who won the
toss but I think it may have been captain Dan but either way
we batted first. The Cheese opened our innings with a surprise
partner, me. We had a strange opening partnership to deal
with. Addi, the accurate quickish seemer and Davies the middle
aged loopy non-spinner. I kept the seemer out as Ed smashed
the looper for 4, he was annoying though, and he bowled straight
and slowly on the non-bouncing Wenvoe wicket. Ed was first
out; run out it says in the book for 6, I can’t remember
it to tell you the truth.
I was slow and now batting with Will and holed out to cover
off the looper for 4 after batting for what seemed like ages.
Thank god. Our main partnership of the game happened here
Will scored 68 and Ollie scored 35 and had a partnership of
73, both played very well, six fours for Jesus and three for
Ollie, Ollie got out bowled with the score on 96 and Jas joined
Will for a breezy 20 with 3 fours. Will was next out caught
swiftly followed by Rich for a duck (LBW).
Dan joined the gobshite at the crease and they put on a swift
33 run partnership, a six for the smoke and a four and a four
for shagger, Del boy was caught for 18 and the skipper run
out for 7 last ball, Foxy not our 0. Fifteen extras, 173 for
7 at the end of our 40
We retired for a plentiful tea by the Fox, please see tea
watch and dragged ourselves out into the field.
I wont go on much about their innings, as it was mainly a
one-man band effort by Jimmy Marchant who made 77 out of the
124 that they scored in an easy win for us. Dan only bowled
2 overs and took their opener for a duck bowled, boycie got
the other opener bowled for another duck.
Their biggest partnership was next when their number 3 and
Jimmy came together until Shakes got the number 3 for 17 LBW,
I think they put on 70 or eighty before that. Buckets Obee
then got their number five for 6, caught, I can’t remember
who caught it and it isn’t in the book.
To finish it all off I got 3 wickets, 2 LBW and a caught
and bowled and Richie bowled Marchant for an excellent 77.
Lewis 1 for 0 off 2
The Smoke 1 for 11 off 4
Fox 0 for 20 off 6
Pete 1 for 43 off 8
Shakes 1 for 22 off 8
Pabs 3 for 9 off 6
Jas 0 for 13 off 3
Rich 1 for 2 off 3
We won by 49 runs.
