Match Report vs Cavaliers
25 May 2017 (Cup) @ Wenvoe (Skipper and report Britpop)
Note to self: Do the match report at a stage where you might
remember what the hell happened during the match.
Part Fiction
So after terror had not really stuck at all on a Newport
roundabout, we turned up at Wenvoe slightly late with Will
MW stepping in at the last minute after Neil got caught up
in the chaos.
Kim couldn’t wait for the captain who was also a little
late so tossed himself (hmm) – I don’t recall
the outcome of Kim’s tossing, but I do know (as the
scorebook informs me) that we batted.
Kim opened with Ollie and they got off to a slow but steady
start before Ollie was bowled for 7. I then walked to the
crease and a couple of runs later walked straight back off
2 runs added. Kim & Tesh didn’t last much longer
as they became the 3rd & 4th straight batsman to be bowled.
Will & Rob then went about salvaging the innings with
a lovely 50ish partnership on a tricky wicket. They smashed
4 sixes between them of which Rob got one (sorry Rob –
don’t remember where but I’m going with a straight
6). Will then retired and Godfrey joined Rob at the crease
and set about ‘twatting the slags’ all over the
park – it was a remarkable and ‘never seen before’
(or again) piece of batting that even included a straight
six. Goffy then retired and of course was extremely modest
about his performance!
Mark joined Rob (24) to finish off the innings a cut a 4
through backward point (I’m guessing) and we finished
the innings on a respectful 133-5.
Kim also opened the bowling (fuck we are getting like some
of our opposing teams) with Shaky and started neatly with
the opening 4 overs going for 16 with Kim bagging the opener
– C&B. The next bowling pair of Tesh & Thomas
started well with Tesh bowling a lovely over including a turning
spitting delivery to smashed into the stumps whilst only going
for 1 run. Dave bowled tidily with only 10 coming off his
2 overs. Unfortunate Tesh must have served up a bit of dross
in his 2nd over which got carted for 21 runs – their
acceleration started at this point and the next 3 overs from
Tim & Rich went for 45. Our last 3 bowlers of Ollie, Rob
& Will had and uphill task with the pick of them being
Rob who bowled beautifully, taking a wicket and going for
just 2 in the penultimate over. They finish off reaching the
target 134 early in the final over.
Sorry if I’ve missed something – it’s been
a while.
Man of the Match Rob Owen – If only the hapless captain
had brought him on earlier!!
