Match Report vs Cavaliers
03 July 2016 @ Cathedral School (Skipper Kim, report
Ash)
The casuals turned up on a somewhat overcast day to Cathedral
School to play the Cavaliers. After a little delay to the
preceding’s, Kym went out to the middle and lost the
toss with the Casuals being put into bat.
Kym and Mark opened, moving at a steady rate keeping the
board ticking at around 4 an over, and not really being troubled
too much beyond seeing off the openers of Dawkins and Parkhurst,
before making an effort to go after the 1st change with Kym
bringing up his fifty a few balls before drinks at 20 overs,
and with both openers still there having put on 100 runs exactly.
Following drinks, the aim was to kick on start upping the
run rate, unfortunately Kym going for a big shot to the short
boundary was caught for 54 in the 22nd over with a 102 opening
partnership.
This brought Will to the crease who started tentatively following
Shakeys lead at the other end nurdling the ball around and
happy with the singles and the occasional boundary. Shakey
continued until the 26th over where he was undone for 38 bowled
LBW.
Rob joined Will at the crease, trying to go for shots but
always finding the fielders – and after seeing off 4
balls was bowled for 0 off his 5th ball. Steve walked out
to the crease with a purpose, swinging from the 1st ball and
connecting on the 4th for a lovely boundary through cover.
He continued to run the quick singles and try to up the score
rate until he was out in the 31st over for 15.
Ashley went out to meet Will and knocked around the singles
giving Will the strike and letting him go about the destructive
work, hitting 2 consecutive 6’s and a 4. Ashley then
decided to start going for bigger shots giving himself room
getting bowled for 9. Pete went out to meet Will before Will
trying to do the same thing giving himself space also got
bowled, for 57. Paul and Pete finished the innings, with Pete
getting runout off the last ball for 5 and Paul not out on
3. This left the Casuals setting 199 off 40 overs for 7 wickets.

Tea was had, which was a nice range of options and more info
can be found in the resulting tea report
The Casuals, with a half decent total to defend opened with
Paul and Dave, Paul starting with a bit of medium pace, and
Dave with his usual lethal spinning grenades. Dave had an
early chance with Ash stumping the opener who had still not
made it back in his ground after the appeal, but unfortunately
this was not given. Both continued to bowl well with Dave
getting the first result bowling the opener in the 4th over.
1st change up Pete and Foxy came on, with Ashley still being
a bit disgruntled from previously in the game letting out
a rather large shout and making sure the square leg knew this
time that the batsman was still not in his ground and duely
the decision was given off Petes bowling. Pete continued to
bowl well, managing to get 2 edges which Ashley took behind
the stumps (I know everyone else as shocked as much as you
are reading it!)
John bowling his usual mortars managed to annoy and coax
the batsman into going after him and duely got himself a wicket
caught by Kym. Rob and Steve also got a bowl, and Rob managed
to get a maiden, maiden followed by a wicket maiden! Stevo
managed to get what seemed (with lots of discussion after
the game in the pub) a rather generous LBW decision! This
then brought the game to a rather slow pace, with the cavaliers
looking to bat the overs, but increasing the required rate
every over, and with the Casuals bowling well to restrict
any easy runs we brought it to an end in the 31st over –
Cavaliers all out for 112.
Catch for Kym, 2 catches and 1 stumping for Ashley.
Name Overs Mdns Runs Wickets
Paul 6.2 0 26 2
Dave 5 1 25 1
Pete 4 0 5 3
John 4 0 28 1
N Aqil 5 0 20 1
Rob 3 3 0 1
Steve 3 1 5 1
Back to the pub for a continued discussion on that LBW amongst
other things in the lovely beer garden up the road.
