Match Report vs Card
Games 25 May 2016 @ St Fagans (Skipper Kim, report
Richie)
Okay ... little memory of this game or indeed any events
but here we go.
Played on the far pitch at St Fagans on the last Wednesday
evening in May .... it should’ve been a glorious, warm,
balmy early summer evening of entertaining cricket .... it
wasn’t. Card games dealt us a cruel hand and no matter
how much we twisted or attempted to hold we eventually folded
and bust.
Enough of the card game analogies and back to the cricket
‘report’ ...
[Note to self must write my report up earlier in future ....]
Not sure if Kim won the toss or not but we were batting first
with Kim & Ollie opening the innings.
The Aussie was the first the fall in the 2nd over bowled
for a single (1 for 1 off 1.4). Tesh called the middle at
number 3. The next 11 balls went by without much frivolity
until the same bowler, Raz, did for Ollie bowled for four
singles (10 for 2 off 3.2) – wides [although marked
as no balls in the book!] we already tied as joint top scorer
at this point.
Freckles joined Tickle at the crease (although at the other
end) and they restored some stability to the scorecard. Freckles
bringing up the first boundary of the innings in the ninth
over .... sadly Tesh had brought up the third wicket of the
innings in the previous over again bowled (Clegg) for six
singles (26 for 3 off 7.2).
Steve’O in at number 5 ... {this is where the fun should
start yes ?} .... well for Steve’O anyway. The lusty
four for Darren must’ve taken it out of him and he was
next to fall, caught (off Griffiths), for 13 [giving wides
a run for their money at this point !] (41 for 4 off 9.2).
Richie in next and a useful single before being given LBW
(Jewitt) {down the leg side !!] (53 for 5 off 10.1).
Dan exchanged placed with Richie and joined Steve’O
at the wicket. Steve’O returning after being caught
(off Griffiths) for 16 (59 for 5 off 12).
Rob was in and out like a dogs dick without troubling the
score bowled by Thomas [the fall of wickets wasn’t recorded
after this point] in the 13 over which beckoned Kiwi Pete.
Dan was next back to the pavilion [shed], caught (Thomas),
for 15 (which included a six) in the fifteenth over.
Wides were close to retiring ....
Kiwi Pete had a bit of fun with a welcome 11 before succumbing,
bowled, to Custer [no last stand there ...] in the penultimate
over. Dave’s fretting had proved well founded as he
was required at number 11.
Tim had taken the place of Dan and finished 8 not out with
T-gate proving the doubters wrong with a solid 1 not out.
Wides had top scored with 20 not out.
76 off the bat and 21 extras gave us 97 off 18 overs ...
did I mention this was an 18 over league game with a maximum
of 2 overs per bowler ? [well I have now]
In truth they bowled well and we never got going
Now then, this is interesting, there’s not much detail
in our bowling figures of the fall of wickets [not that there
were many!]
Dan & T-gate opened the bowling and Dan bowled very well
only going for a couple in his wicket-less pair of overs ...
T-gate also unable to get a breakthrough in his double burst.
Rob & Tesh followed as first change and again could find
the penetration.
Freckles and Steve’O were next up with Steve’O
gaining the first wicket (bowled) of the number 3 batsmen
after both of the opening batsmen had retired on 32 &
30 respectively.
Kiwi took the next wicket (again bowled), the number 4 batsman
for 20 and the skipper bowled their number 5 who didn’t
trouble the scoring.
They took the winning runs of Tim’s over which appears
to be the 18th over – it may look tight but the record
states they won by 7 wickets.
From memory I believe we troubled the crisps behind the bar
more than the scorers
