Match Report vs Cardiff Medics 23 June 2015 @ Wenvoe (Skipper Kim, report Shakey)

The Casuals were met at Wenvoe by glorious sunshine, surprisingly minimal traffic, and a very youthful Cardiff Medics team.

I'm not sure who won the toss because I hadn't remembered I was writing the match report by then but we were out to field first. Dan and Luke opened the bowling and with the notorious pink ball swinging a bit got the two openers out in the first four overs after they'd showed some promise with a few good shots. Ameesh and Pablo on next, kept it tight and built the pressure. In amongst all this was some very tight and dedicated fielding by the Casuals, personified by an effort from Rolf at cover with a glorious dive to his left, but sadly the ball hadn't arrived yet so he had to watch it dribble past him for a single, cursing his highly evolved reflexes. Matt also showed great dedication going for an aggressive run out but sadly the ball went for an aggressive 4 overthrows instead. Winky showed them how it was done taking a nice catch at midwicket off Rolf's very first ball of his spell, and a neat run out for the wicket of one of the numerous Patels in action tonight. Rolf and Matt had a nice spell towards the latter stages of the innings. Dan and Luke back on. An outrageous reverse sweep from one of the medics ended predictably for Tuesday evening cricket in disaster as he got no where near it and was skittled by Dan. The pink ball struck again with some erratic swing as an edge was taken behind by Goff off Luke's bowling. The Medics put up a good total of 122-6 off their 20 overs.

Tesh and Winky opened the batting for the Casuals and raced to 15 off 2 overs with some delightful shots. Tesh was bowled in the 5th over for 16 and the run rate had slowed a bit to 23 off 5. Rob O was in next wielding his new axe. The run rate slowed again frustrating the boundary committee. "We've gone from manhattan to bodmin" was heard. It did the trick as Winky hit over point and then past square leg for 2 each and then aimed a 4 straight back past the bowler. Winky was then rewarded with a peppering of wides by Skelton. 37 off 8. Patel number 3 then came on bowling some loopy spin, rob was dropped, 42 off 10. The run rate needed a bit of a boost, no nail biting yet on the boundary but a few were a bit further forward in their seats. Winky brought the 50 up with a nice drive past mid-on, and then another 4 past mid-on. Another over, another Patel on to bowl. Rob out caught behind, his new bat with a few juicy pink cherries.

In amongst all this Darren turned up at the boundary with his new Go-Pro, some of the older casuals were very intrigued wondering where the film was kept. With the go-pro strapped to his chest he made his way out to umpire, hoping to catch some extreme cricket.

Gough off in now, and quickly off the mark. 73 off 13, we were heading in the right direction. A big 4 from Goff was greeted with indifference from the boundary who felt he should have at least got a 6 . 90 off 15 overs, 33 needed off 30 balls. The opening bowler Greg Dyke was brought back on and Winky was caught behind for 41, the casuals remarking he looked a bit shorter as he made his way back to the boundary. Shakes next in and off the mark quickly. 29 needed off 28 balls. Shakes was gifted a few full tosses and put them away nicely. 21 off 18 balls. 13 off the next over as another full toss was shafted away and Shakes drove a 4 past mid-on. 8 off 12 balls needed. Shakes was caught at cover for 19. Rolf in next and off the mark with some good running. 6 off the last over needed, Goff with a 4 off the first ball and 2 off the second to win the game for the Casuals - 123-4 off 19.2 overs.

Goff left the field proclaiming himself the "go-to man" after his second successful run chase of the season. The casuals were happy with yet another victory this season. Hopefully Darren got a few good shots on the new camera too although they may take a while to be developed.
