Match Report vs Cavaliers
09 June 2015 @ Cathedral School (Skipper Kim, report
Dan)
Winning the toss Skipper Kim decided to bat first. I have
a feeling this might have been ChanderPaul’s debut game
and he was asked to open with Kim. The Cazh got off to a solid
start and both Kim and Paul looked very accomplished batsmen.
Both left the good ball and tried to punish the bad and after
4 overs the score on 22 without loss.
The score rate started to creep up with boundaries a piece,
and by the 8th over the score was up to 60 and both players
looking to keep up momentum, however disaster struck in the
9th with ChanderPaul being bowled for 28. Freckles Britton
joined Kim. The next fall of wicket didn’t happen until
the 16th over, but only a further 28 runs were scored, Britpop
next out run out for 4. Kim fell soon after for 60 next over.
Cheese went on the rampage to make the score respectable scoring
25 off 3 of the last 4 overs until he was caught and there
were contributions from Luke (bowled for 3), Kiwi Pete (not
out 1), Rolf (bowled for a duck) and Matt Purnell not out
2. Final score 130 off 20overs.
Kim - ct 60
ChanderPaul - b 28
Britpop - ro 4
Cheese - ct 25
Luke - b 3
Kiwi Pete - no 1
Rolf - b 0
Matt P - no 2
Winkie DNB
Goffy DNB
Shag DNB
Knowing the Cavaliers batting is usually strong, it was considered
a challenge to keep them below it. Dan opened from the rugby
club end just going for 4, but Matt P from the changing room
end got an early breakthrough with a catch on the boundary.
Steadman was joined by McVeigh and rotated the strike, but
always scored at least 1 boundary each over. Matt took a second
wicket in his last over caught by Goffy behind the stumps.
60-2 off 8. Score rate neck and neck. However, where the Cazh
struggled in the middle overs, the Cavs kept the rate moving
and the fall of the next wicket in the 16th the score was
on 110. Rolf bowled some excellent deliveries, especially
in the first 2 overs of his spell, the 3rd over lost his line
and went for a few wides. Winkie, apart from 2 boundaries,
one being a 6, only went for singles and was rewarded with
bowling Steadman for 33. Luke and Kiwi Pete to bowl the last
4 overs weren’t able to get any further wickets and
the game was up in the 19th over.
Shag - 4/0/32/0
Matt P - 4/0/25/2
Rolf - 4/0/31/0
Winkie - 4/0/18/1
Luke - 1.4/0/14/0
Kiwi Pete - 1/0/8/0
Speaking in the pub afterwards, a wicket or 2 more would
have given the Cazh a chance at the tail, but not many chances
were given.
