Match Report vs Barry
Wanderers 01 September 2013 @ Hayes Point (Skipper
Cheese, report Shag)
The Cazh turned up for what turned out to be the last welsh
fixture of the season. The weather was lovely and we may have
won the toss and decided to bat. Jonny F making his last appearance
for the Casuals (before we make him play again next season)
opened with Steveo. The pair started steadily and after 7
overs had scored 22. Jonny had been lucky not to go in the
first over hitting out towards the beach only for the ball
to fall just short of the fielder. Steveo was first to fall
run out going for a bit of a suicide run for 11. Ash replaced
him and scored a boundary and a few singles before being caught
for 7 with the score on 34 after 14 overs.
Cheese was in next and upped the rate starting with a boundary.
He and John put on a partnership of 31 before John was eventually
caught for 23. Richie didn’t trouble the scorers bowled
and Dan didn’t do much better caught for 2. 81-5 after
25 overs. Shakey made a bit of a stay but was caught in the
32nd over for 12. Winkie joined Ed and the pair put on a fantastic
partnership of 99 off the last 8.5 overs taking the total
to 203. Ed hit 5 maximums (including his 40 milestone 6) on
his way to 91 no and Winkie hit a solid 32no.
Jonny f – 23 ct
Steveo – 11 ro
Ash – 7 ct
Ed – 91no
Richie – 0 b
Dan – 2ct
Shakey – 12ct
Andy H – 32no
Paul, Pete O, Dave T DNB
Tea was taken and demolished as per usual.
Jonny F was thrown the ball to open and his 5 over spell
was very respectable but wicketless going for just 22. Dan
the other opener kept it tight but didn’t really look
like getting a wicket against a solid batting pair going for
17 off his 8 over and 3 maidens. Paul and Winkie took over.
Both started well and tried to tempt the batsmen into a false
shot. It was Shakey who replaced his brother was brought on
mid-spell to get the break through in the 21st over getting
Ellis caught by Steveo for 29. 81-1. The other opener Burgin
continued to accumulate. It was part time bowler Shakey who
took the next wicket all on his own – getting a caught
and bowled (plus reaching his 50th career catch milestone).
91-2 off 25 overs.
Dave and Pete were brought on and it was Pete who got the
next wicket in the 31st over bowling the number 5. I think
it was around this point that there was a bit of confusion
with how many overs had been bowled, and although the game
continued whilst the scorers tried to sort things out it was
to cause further confusion later in the game. The runs dried
up a bit and it looked like the Wanderers would finish well
short. However, even though a few more wickets fell –
Dave bowling 2 of the middle order, Burgin (no2) was still
there and Coleman at 7 put on a spurt. With seemingly another
4 overs still to go the Wanders only required 17 to win and
a few boundaries including a 6 things didn’t look too
rosie. Another 6 off Shakey looked to be taking the game away
from the Cazh, however the script was written back in the
favour of the Cazh with a defying gravity catch with ‘hang
time’ by Pete Obee1 to take the wicket of Burgin the
opener for 84. 2 run outs from Richie in the ‘last over’
sealed victory for the Cazh by 4 runs.
As it turned out the Wands had had an extra 2 overs to score
the runs (42 overs bowled), but it made it a more exiting
game.
Everyone retired to the pub and headed home happy.
