Match Report vs Eclipse
9 July 2013 @ Wenvoe (Skipper Cheese, report Shakey)
Will capped a fine batting display, and narrowly missed out
on a ton, when he picked up an easy single to reach our target
of 143 in the 17th over. His 92* featured three pleasing sixes
and 14 boundaries as he dominated a 107-run partnership with
Johnny F for the second wicket.
Ah hold on. Readers may get the impression that this was
the winning target - they would sadly be mistaken.
No, this was the target we had set ourselves in beating
the score of the Eclipse opener who had just smashed us for
an unbeaten 142. He played extremely well and made the Wenvoe
ground seem much smaller than normal in hitting eight 6s on
the way. Yes he was dropped a few times [including on 0...]
but some of the drops were excusable given their power. Oddly
enough Paul bowled a wicket maiden and shakes only went for
20 off his four overs. The rest of the attack was taken apart
as Eclipse reached 213-5 with the other opener scoring 31
(stumped by Will off shakes), extras 24 and the next highest
score was 12. Cheese picked up an expensive three wickets.
The 'run chase' wasn't without interest though. After Darren
fell cheaply Jam and Will batted very well for their big partnership
before Jam was caught for 35. Gaz gave Will further support
but alas Will was caught in the deep on 92 - the highlight
being the hard thwack off cricket ball on to a travellers'
van as the watching cazh predicted it was bound to happen
soon. Ah yes the travellers. But that's a story for another
time.
After a brief sojourn from cheese, Tesh and Dan made hay
in taking us to a respectable 166-5 off 20 overs.
