Match Report vs Tintern
30 June 2013 @ Tintern Abbey (Skipper Cheese, report
Shakey)
Tintern looked resplendent in the early afternoon sun as
elsewhere in South Wales the rain came down. Following a cursory
inspection of the green thing resembling the pitch and comments
about it looking flatter than normal we had a bat having lost
the toss.
After a slow start Tesh and Stevo started to accumulate although
the pitch was showing signs of misbehaving at the Abbey end.
Stevo was the first to go, bowled off his legs and bat and
arm and arse or whatever it was - anyway the ball was incredibly
slow and he watched it trickle onto his stumps and a bail
fell off. Captain cheese and tesh did well for the next few
overs before tesh was also bowled for 15 with the score at
21. Some indiscrete shots and a devilish pitch saw the middle
order perish abruptly to leave us wobbling at 46-6.
The skipper had batted with a little luck thus far (you
needed it) but huge application as the innings fell apart
around him. He just needed a little support. Goff gave some
resistance with a couple of biffs for four before he too fell
to a stumping and winkie also did his bit to drag us back
to 84-7. But then it all went horribly wrong again and the
cheese was stumped last man out for a very creditable 31.
Our bowling figures are nowhere to be seen which may be
a good thing as they didn't take long to get the runs although
I do remember shakes taking a calm catch at point that was
destined for the boundary :-)
The highlight of the day was unwinding with chips and beer
and listening to Stevo moan about the lousy service in the
pub. But he did enlighten us with 'spaff' which became our
word for the day!
