Match Report vs Barry
Wanderers 03 July 2011 @ Hayes Point (Skipper Muff,
report Kim)
Another weekend and another match against a different team
then originally planned. Thankfully this was against our good
friends, Barry Wanderers who definitely didn’t have
a league match (as confirmed by Junior).
The last few matches between the two sides have been closely
contested and another one was in prospect with the sun belting
down all day.
Barry Wanderers won the toss and elected to field. Jam and
Pablo went out to open, with Jam hoping to improve his total
from the previous weekend. In fact, Jam improved it by 36
runs (he scored 1 last weekend) and put on an excellent partnership
of 62 before Pabs was caught on the deep square leg boundary
for a patient 24. The platform was set for a good total.
Cheese entered and dispatched the first ball he faced to
the boundary. At the halfway stage the Casuals were 1 for
72 and doing nicely. Cheese was next out as he missed a straight
one and was bowled for 9 by D Morgan. 2 for 80. D Morgan also
accounted for the next wicket, Jam was also bowled, for a
fine 37 including a glorious 6. With two new batsmen at the
crease, Kim and Rich decided to take the attack to Wanderer’s
younger bowlers. The pair put on 80 runs (in 9 overs) for
the 4th wicket with Richie looking his old self again slapping
the balls to all parts of the field. Kim was playing quite
fluently put failed to keep the ball down as he cut too early
and was caught at cover for 40. Score has moved rapidly to
4 for 159 off 33 overs as Roachy joined Richie at the crease
with the license to express himself.
Now, we all seen Roachy’s style of batting and think
we know what to expect! Right? Wrong. What followed were two
of the best shots you will see and against a quality bowler
in Andy Fenton. If you blinked you would have missed it as
Roachy took a stride and lofted Fenton for a huge six over
long off. A few balls later was an even better shot back foot
cover drive over cover for a wonderful four. However, Fenton
got his revenge as he bowled Roachy for a splendid little
cameo of 10 which contained not one single! As quick runs
were needed Richie miscued and was caught for an excellent
32. Welcome back Richie! Ash and Steve-o batted the last few
overs and scored 9 and 7 not out respectively with the Casuals
ended on a very respectable total of 194 for the lost of 6
wickets.
Jam 37 runs (off 67 balls, 5 x 4s, 1 x 6)
Pablo 24 (51 balls, 3 x 4s)
Cheese 9 (14 balls, 1 x 4)
Kim 40 (32 balls, 5 x 4s, 1 x 6)
Richie 32 (35 balls, 6 x 4s)
Roachy 10 (12 balls, 1 x 4, 1 x 6)
Ash 9 n.o (15 balls, 1 x 4)
Steveo 7 n.o (4 balls, 1 x 4)
DNB Winkie, Shakey and Muff
Now, on the forum and before the match started Porno said
“Phew, I have seen their team and it is weak in the
batting department with Fenton, Ashy, Dave Morgan and a couple
of kids bowling and maybe the Irish guy.” Mmmm, so an
easy win for the Casuals was on the card. Winkie opened with
Muff and accounted for one of their openers with a peach of
a delivery knocking out middle stump. This brought in their
Irish captain, Neil (or Niall) to the crease. Both Muff and
Winkie bowled superb in their opening spells of 4 overs (as
the weather was warm-ish ). Shakey and Steveo took over and
bowled steadily but with no success. At the halfway stage
the Wanderers were 1 for 86 with both batsmen playing sensibly.
Roachy, Richie and Pablo tried their luck but with out any
success too. Pablo was unlucky as he could have a stumping
or caught behind off the same delivery. However, it was an
extremely difficult chance and one those either they stick
or don’t.
The Casuals had to wait until the 29th over for their second
wicket with Cheese enticing an edge from their captain which
was brilliantly caught by Roachy, diving forward. 2 for 139.
Game on! Winkie and Muff came back to bowl the final 7 and
both bowled superbly with Winkie bowling their key batsman,
Norman for 76. In between Winkie also bowled their number
four batsman for 6. 24 were needed of 3 overs. Great bowling
by Muff at the death with two wickets, both brilliantly taken,
one by Richie and the other by Winkie ensured a comfortable
victory for the Casuals by 7 runs as the Wanderers finished
on 6 for 187. Ok, not comfortable until the last bowl was
delivered but excellent bowling by Winkie and Muff and well
supported by all the fieldsmen.
Bowling figures were:
Winkie 8-1-14-3
Muff 7-2-17-2
Shakey 8-0-41-0
Steveo 4-0-22-0
Roachy 2-0-17-0
Richie 2-0-12-0
Cheese 4-0-28-1
Pablo 5-0-19-0
Excellent match, glorious sunshine, friendly opponent and
a victory. What more can you ask for!
