Match Report vs Highway
Hurricanes 27 July 2010@ Blackweir (Skipper and Report
Captain Dan)
With cloudy skies Captain Dan lost the toss and the Cazh
were inserted into bat, which suited the skipper just fine.
The game was shortened to 18overs a piece due to the light.
Britpop and Lovers opened up. As always as Blackweir, the
pitch could do anything and kept the pair honest. After a
few nurdles Darren was first to fall, bowled for 6. Kim joined
Lovers and pair began to build their partnership. Gaz had
a number of lives (4 in total), but he survived them all.
He eventually clubbed his first 6 on his 13 delivery, Kim
not to be out outdone clubbed his not long after, but he was
only granted one life as he was caught next ball (21) 69-2
off 9 overs. Mahesh joined Gaz and proceeded to nurdle to
his hearts content, usually off his legs. After a couple more
large 6’s, Lovers finally fell eventually caught for
58. 114-3-15overs. Steveo marched out to the middle and swished
a couple of times before being bowled to a low one (1). 120-4-16overs.
Promoted up the order Shag joined Mahesh. A slow loopy bowler
was on, and after smacking a 4, the skip was almost undone
by going down the track, realising he was going to miss it,
tried to get back and fortunately beat the ball back to keeper
and the ball dribbled past the stumps. He and Mahesh ran everything,
and with a 6 and a miss field 4 the pair finished not out
22 and 11 respectively. The Cazh finished on 142-4 off 18overs.
Darren – 6 b
Gareth – 58 ct
Kim – 21 ct
Mahesh – 11 no
Steveo – 1 b
Dan 22 no
After having previously having a go at the Hurricanes scoring/adding
up in previous games…we should maybe look at ourselves…what
does 1,4,1,2,2,6,2,4 make…it’s not 18...(you buggers!)
With a very defendable total, Winkie and JB opened up. Winkie
started with a 4 and four dots, whilst JB began with a maiden.
Winkie tightened up and got his wicket 2 ball of his second
over, bowled. His 3rd over mirrored his first. JB bowled very
well and was maybe unlucky with a faint nick to keeper Steveo.
Unfortunately Steveo gave away 5 penalty runs for deciding
to take the helmet out and missed a JB delivery. 24-1-6 overs.
Dai Boy Thomas (as it’s written in the book!!) took
over from Winkie and Dion from JB. Dai Boy was hit for a boundary
first delivery, but then brought it back. Dion started with
a wide but then got his wicket caught by Kim at cover. Dai
Boy then took Steveo’s advice and decided to land it
on the wicket and spun it, taking a very good wicket bowled.
He then finished with a wicket maiden, bowled…which
should have been a double wicket maiden, but a simple catch
was put down by Captain Dan at short mid on (Dan had previously
told Dai that if he took another wicket he would be joint
leading wicket taker for the season…with Dan…
(and Paul)!). Unlucky!! Dion finished his spell after bowling
well. His figures should have been better had it not been
for another mis-field from Dan…65-4-12overs.
Shakey took over from Dai Boy and Shag from Dion. The batsmen
knew they needed to up the pace and began to run everything,
the first run out chance was missed by Shakey, and the second,
to cap off a poor fielding display from Shag, the batsman
would have been out by a mile…if he could catch the
ball…However, Shag was finally rewarded with a wicket,
bowled. Shakey tried to keep it tight but the batsmen were
swinging and often connected and sent the ball to the short
boundary. Shag picked up another wicket the penultimate delivery
with a very safe catch by Gazza. The Hurricanes finished 20
short in the diminishing light. 122-6.
Winkie – 3-0-11-1
JB – 3-1-6-0
Dave – 3-1-10-2
Iain – 3-0-21-0
Mark – 3-0-30-0
Dan – 3-0-22-2
Another friendly game, played in good spirit and another
good performance from the Cazh, but probably more importantly
for the team – a win! Then it was off to the Blackweir
Tavern to hear about Steveo’s student’s x-rated
performances….the dvd is soon to be released….get
in line.
