Match Report vs Dinas
Powys 11 July 2010@ The Common (Skipper and report
Winkie)
An early start (1pm) was the order of the day with the world
cup final looming at 7.30pm. Those first to arrive at the
ground were presented by fields of long golden brown grass
rippling across the common, somwhere in amongst the scorched
stems was a cricket pitch. Eventually everyone found the ground.
The opposition had instigated their youth policy for the day
(usually a bad sign for the cazh). The strip was the only
piece of grass for miles around which had any green in it,
but the others looked very dry, dusty and likely to see the
ball go through the top - so all in all a sensible decision
to go with the green top.
Against the advice of many the skip (Winky) decided to bat
first. Easy and JR got the game off to a steady/careful start
with 21 off the first 8 overs. The pitch playing much better
than expected could perhaps have yielded a few more early
runs but a firm foundation was set, with Easy the first to
fall bowled for 12. Mr Cheese came in next and managed to
up the scoring rate to 39 off 13 overs before JR fell for
10 (bowled). Cheesy fell shortly after for 20 - again bowled
playing around a full straight delivery (should have just
cut it for four!). This brought together a new partnership
not previously seen for the Cazh - the councillor and terminator
(Loveridge).
They proved an irresitable combination putting on 111 in
quick time to get the score upto 160 off 30 overs. Not suprisingly
(to many) the majority of runs going to the more athletic
of the two. The councillor was the first to fall for a well
constructed 33. Harry played a quick cameo scoring 6. Eventually
one swashbuckling shot too many put paid to a fine innings
of big hitting from Gareth LBW for 79 . This could have signalled
time to collapse but no - Dave Ryde fell for 8 trying to up
the ante, Paul weighed in with a fine knock of 30 (not out),
Winky a quickish 18 and Porno a nostalgic 3 not out at the
end - only Richie not required to bat. 229 for 8 off of 40
overs. Some might say child abuse but they needed to be put
away.
The score allowed room for experimentation and those that
could bowl and a few that couldn't did (hope that makes sense).
The overs were rattled through quickly. The mix of young and
old for Dinas put up a strong defense against some accurate
bowling. Always behind the rate they kept going whilst never
willing to throw away wickets. The young wicky put on a fine
display to score 89 not out and is a real prospect for the
future - lets hope he doesn't go the same way as so many wicket
keepers before him! Anyway they came up short in the end 167
for 6
Harry Ryde 5-1-0-21
Dave Ryde 8-1-0-29
P Stephens 7-2-1-19
A.Hood(C) 6-0-1-15
JR 8-0-4-43
M. Stephens 6-1-0-35
Pleanty of bird watching in the deep proved some of the Rydes
have a future with the Cazh (Richie and JR need to be more
careful at your age!)
CAZH win!
