Match Report vs Tonyrefail
& Edmonston 20 June 2010@ Tyn y Bryn Park (Skipper
and Report Captain Dan)
With everyone in attendance apart from Steveo with the kit
and scorer Andy F, the toss was taken and lost by Captain
Dan and the Casuals were sent into the field.
The Casuals took to the field in the baking heat with Steveo
and kit just after 2pm. Shagger and BA opened the bowling,
Shag starting with a maiden and subsequently began to lose
his line and length. Paul on the other hand found his line
straight away and kept the batsmen honest. It was Paul who
got the breakthrough in the 6th over clean bowling Long who
tried to swipe across the line to a perfect delivery. 11-1.
Dan got in on the action in his 6th over tempting the batsman
into a sweep who only managed to top edge it high into the
air back towards Dan who caught it between hands and throat.
38-2-11overs.
The first of the kids came in and looked a bit nervous to
start, however, it was Paul who got the double breakthrough
taking the other opener and the number 5, in the 16th over
both bowled. 39-4-14overs. With another kid coming in Captain
Dan decided to switch the bowling to spin, bringing on Dave
and Shakey. Dave started with 3 maidens, Shakey put it there
or there abouts and was unlucky not to get a couple of wickets,
but the ball bounced over the stumps. It was Dave however
that got his reward in his 6th over – after putting
down a simple caught and bowled (which he shouldn’t
have left the ground for!), the next ball, the batsman hit
it quite hard in the direction of Dave, who flung his left
hand out And took a much harder chance. He got another 2 balls
later this time caught by Kim at mid off. 67-6-23overs. Shakey
should have got his first wicket in his 5th over, but it was
put down by Dan chasing round from mid on. Fortunately, Mark
got his reward getting the number 8 stumped. By Gareth who
switched with Ash at drinks behind the stumps.
Steveo and Muff came on to bowl. Steveo bowled well once
again, even after getting hit for a 6 by a lad who had never
batted before, but he got his revenge the next over getting
him caught in the slips by Muff. Muff was unfortunate not
to get a certain bowled, when the ball hit the batting mark
and shot off at right angles. However, he was to take his
wicket in his 5th over taking the wicket of the number 9 caught
by Ash. 113-9. Ed bowled a couple at the death and should
have got the the young number 4 who had scored his first 50
caught by Dan at cover – the easiest chance of the lot,
which Dan couldn’t take…2 balls later Ed should
have caught him himself, but ala Dave jumped to catch the
ball instead of standing still. Kim came on and got the lad
first ball of his spell caught by Muff. Tonyrefail closing
on 128 off 37.1overs.
Dan – 6overs 2 maidens 18 runs 1 wicket
Paul – 7-1-16-3
Dave - 6-3-16-2
Mark – 6-1-15-1
Steveo – 5-0-24-1
Muff – 5-2-14-1
Ed – 2-0-15-0
Kim – 0.1-0-0-1
Tea was taken before the turn around.
Easy and Ed opened up and both looked at ease even against
a sharp opening attack from 2 young bowlers. With the score
on 11 in the 4th over, Ed played and missed at a good delivery,
seemingly hitting his bat against his pad, however the appeal
for caught behind was given by the oppo guest umpire. Easy
thought it was out, but no one else did, however he was out
(6). Kim joined Easy, but the following over Easy chipped
one to cover for a simple catch (3). Ash was next in and played
out 10 deliveries before getting off the mark. Kim on the
other hand was scoring in boundaries or singles. Both played
very well and moved towards their respective 50s, Ash clubbing
some baseball style fours and Kim playing some more usual
cricketing shots. The 100 was brought up in the 19th over,
but in the 20th Kim tried to sweep one, the ball bouncing
a little more than expected and popped it up to the keeper
(34). Big hitting Gareth was next in at 5, but pushed at one
a little too hard and was caught at mid on (1). Suddenly the
Cazh were 107-4 and looking a bit uneasy. Steveo aka Jesus
joined Ash in the middle. The following over, Ash made his
maiden 50 scampering a 3.
Steveo hit what looked like a 4 but stopped short and so
only got a single for it, but finished off in style the next
over with 2 big 4’s. The Casuals reaching the required
runs in 22.5 overs.
A good game played in a good spirit, against friendly opposition.
After a pint in a social club on the outskirts of the village
the Cazh made their way home. An excellent 50 from Ash –
kept his concentration against some very good bowling and
some mediocre stuff - thoroughly well deserved
Chris R – 3 ct
Ed – 6 ct
Kim – 34 ct
Ash – 50 no
Gareth – 1 ct
Steveo – 9 no
Shakey, Muff, Dan, Paul and Dave – DNB (Muff reaching
his 50th DNB)
130-4-22.5overs
Won’t say too much about the crackheads on the side
lines, the heated arguement between oppo supporters and club
dignitaries regarding a kid of 13 fielding at silly mid off
(with no box) or the c*nt with an airhorn whilst we were batting….
