Match report vs Glamorgan
Centurions 4June 08@ Llanrumney (Skipper and report
Muff)
On a pleasant if overcast evening we convene at Beirut, sorry,
Llanrumney for our inaugural(?) game against the centurions,
skipper for the night Muff winning the toss and deciding to
have a bat on what looked, and turned out to be a pretty good
track.
first up the tardy Easy and in as pinch hitter Mr. Smith.
The oppo skipper opened and was pacy and getting some movement
but was no match for easy who chopped him for a couple and
kept out the good ones. From the other end was a seam up slow
bowler who had the strangest action though it didn’t
trouble Smitts who played a couple of nice shots including
a glorious straight off drive(!) for 4. 11-0 off 2.
Some good running, good shots and a terrible drop off Easy
and took us to the fifth over before Smitts was bowled by
the skipper for 13 and quickly followed by Chris for 6 to
the same bowler caught. 24-2 off 5.
This brought Pikey and Willy to the crease and steady progress
was made with the Pikster in particular playing some nice
square cuts and will having to play almost everything off
his legs as the bowlers struggled with the left/right combination.
The partnership of 49 brought to an end in the 12th over with
Will bowled for 18. 73-3 off 12.
Scooby in to join Jamie and much talk of Dewbs seaside stance
finally paying off with some useful runs lately but unfortunately
even though he seemed to do an awful lot of running fell to
a catch off a skyer for a contentious 1.(the score book had
it as a bye but Dewbs insisted he hit it so got the run as
no signal could be remembered) 85-4 off 15.
The doc in next with his rock'n'roll pads and quickly set
about the slow loopy stuff the bowler was chucking down.
Mr. Pike went next over bowled for a solid 28 bringing me,
hobbling to the crease and after telling Doc not to run anything
too sharp proceeded to run a 2 that wasn’t on but somehow
managed to make before falling over the sprawled wicketkeeper
and hurting my back even more! Another few singles and twos
and Muff decides to charge the loopy shit doesn’t get
to the pitch by 4 feet and is stumped for 6. 100-6 off 18.
Shandy and Doc stuck on 10 quick runs before Scott was bowled
for 3 leaving Sharif (with new bat) and Doc to complete the
innings unbeaten, Doc 15 n.o. Sharif 1 n.o. with Fitz and
Nads dnb. 119-7.
To the field and with a competitive total in the bag Nads
and Fitzy opened up for us. Nadeem settled into a good line
and Fitz after his first over which the right hander played
with worrying ease soon had the lefty at the other end in
all sorts of trouble. Accurate slow VERY loopy bowling had
him dazed and confused and very unlucky not to pick up a wicket
with Easy putting a sharp low chance down and a plum lbw not
given and after 8 overs Nads and Fitz had strangled the oppo.
36 ish off 8.
The two openers were replaced by Sharif and Shandy and were
again both unlucky to start with, Nads unable to hold one
over his head and another good shout for lbw not given until
the breakthrough finally came in the 13th over Muff taking
a catch at mid-off off Shandy. 2 quick wickets for Sharif
one caught by Nadders and one caught by Pikey and a direct
throw by Dewbs to run-out their man mountain and the game
was effectively over with the oppo needing 40 odd from the
last four overs.
Dewbs and the Doc bowled the death overs and both kept their
heads doc bowling well but unlucky and dewbs proving that
pies get wickets finally getting an lbw decision and the centurions
stranded on 108-5 off the 20 overs.
Well played to all some good fielding, good bowling and
though there were a couple of moments of conflict overall
a good oppo.
