Match report vs SW Echo
12 June 07 @ Blackweir (Skipper and report Dan)
Proceedings didn't start well by 6.10 the Casuals had only
nine players and no skipper. Captain Dan 'tossed' with Skipper
Goughy as to who would have the 'honour'
Captain Dan
won - mainly due to he had taken note of who was (meant to
be) playing. Whilst he was frantically calling Muff and Big
Willy, Goughy won the toss and we elected to bat.
In the absence of Big Willy, Kim and Ash opened up (both
trying out Shakey's new Indian bats). Kim went on the rampage
from the first ball and finished his rampage in the 3rd over
- bowled (by what could have been a no-ball that eventually
landed on the top of the stumps), having scored 20 of the
21 total. Stumpy joined Ash. Ash was having less success with
the new bat (green one) - but did manage to clobber a 4 before
being caught (5 ). 40-2. Fredalo joined Stumpy and hit a well
timed cover 'drive' or 'slap'. The wicket was as expected
at Blackweir - up and down, and the next two wickets were
indicative of that. Fredalo was bowled (4 ) by one that didn't
get more than an inch off the ground. Whilst Omar in at five,
next ball saw one rise and clip the top of off stump (0 ).
46-4-9overs. This brought 'No Kit' Muff to the crease on a
hat-trick ball
.Muff decided to play safe with a forward
defensive
that hit the bat and popped up to the on-coming
bowler
who somehow managed to drop it..
Muff wasn't going to give a second chance, he and Goughy
put the indoor running style into effect, and put on a 40
run partnership which was brought to an end in the 14th over
- Muff bowled (17 ) around his legs by an alleged 'spin' bowler
(it
was probably a straight one
.) Shandy went out to join
Stumpy muttering words of 'exorcising some demons' or something
- whatever it meant, there was some interesting running, calling
and sending back
.however the pair battled hard and accelerated
the run rate, there were a few chances of run outs and catches
but weren't taken by the oppo and the partnership of 48 was
broken on the last ball with Shandy out bowled (25 ). Leaving
Stumpy 39 not out and a competitive total of 134-7.
Rog and Muff were asked to open the bowling, Rog started
as he meant to go on and restricted the run rate. Muff wasn't
quite as lucky, as although he bowled a very good line and
length (apart from the 'yorker' which was dispatched over
the furthest boundary)
a run out chance was created only
for the throw to little Dewbs behind the stumps to go sailing
over his head, and as there was no third man/fine leg to 'back
up' the ball continued all the way to the boundary for 5
.and
who was the culprit
.you guessed it was Radar
.Rog's
second over produced a run out between Muff and Dewbs. 10-1-3overs.
Muff's next over saw 2 difficult half chances in the deep,
both of which found their way over the boundary. In Rog's
fourth over he deservedly bagged a wicket, bowled, and completed
a second maiden
37-2 off 7
Muff's third over included
more mis-fortune, as keeper Dewbs had brought out the helmet
to keep him company behind the stumps
unfortunately where
Dewbs was unable to stop one of Muff's deliveries
the
helmet was able and conceded a further 5 penalty runs
.All
in all Muff bowled very well but certainly will want to forget
his figures (unlucky - they will be shown later :) .
Shandy and Omar bowled the next stint, Shandy taking over
the good work began by Rog, and Omar following Muff's lead
and taking a but of slap
.Omar was unlucky with one delivery
as he bowled an identical delivery as the one that Kim got
in the first innings - with the ball landing on top of the
stumps (against their main batsman), but in this instance
the umpire correctly called no-ball
.bugger. Shandy got
the break through in his second over - bowled.70-3off 11overs.
Shag replaced Omar with the oppo needing 50 off 8 overs.
Shag managed to get a wicket in his second over, but not the
big hitting opener. 111-4 off 16 Goughy took over from Shandy
and too got a wicket in his first over, but with the batsman
taking their chances, short boundaries, lightening quick outfield
and one fielder down, the Echo reached the target 7 balls
to go.
Another game (against the Echo) that we couldn't close out,
but again everyone enjoyed the game (hopefully) and it was
played in a good spirit.
Bowling figures (!):
Rog - 4 overs- 2 maidens- 8 runs - 1 wicket

Shandy 4-0-30-1
