Casuals vs L&G 19 May –
Cup Preliminary round @ Penarth (author Big Will'y' Goad)
On an overcast day and the opposition late and without all
11 players, This cup game started. The Casz went out to bat
with Goad and Dain opening, after a partnership of 70 Goad
went for 32. In came Foote to support the every expansive
Dain. After a 40 run partnership Foote was lbw for 21. Then
followed O,Reilly with a quick 14 then run out. Bringing Gough
to out to bat. With Dain trying to force the game on he was
bowled for 79. With a few more slaps and tickles the casuals
reached a respectable total of 190 for 4 wkts. The mood in
the dressing room was one of a job well done and what indifferent
bowling there had been.
As the clouds descended and the rain started to fall the
L&G innings started and never really stopped until they
had got all the runs with 4 overs left. With the ginger batsman
on 108 not out.
As we trudged off wet to the skin and the sound of the ball
still whizzing past our ears, I could only draw comparisons
with how I felt when playing rugby for Sevenoaks U14's been
beaten by Bromley U19's 100-0 on a rain soaked and concussed
filled day.
