'Treat them as equals' Lewis
leaves his mark!
A rather gloomy, damp and un-cricket-like Wenvoe was the
venue for the battle of numbers game against GE Healthcare.
Up until 4 o'clock it looked like being 9 (CC) against 10
(GEH), but with late additions and withdrawals it ended 10
-7 in the Casuals favour (as it turned out only slightly different
to the final score!)
Losing the late toss GEH decided to bat on an increasingly
dark and drizzly June evening.
Dan opened proceedings with two wickets in his first over
(Caught Gough [W/K] and Caught & Bowled) in tandem with
Andy H with both bowling ferociously through their four over
quotas. Andy taking his only wicket in his second over (bowled)
and Dan collecting his third wicket (bowled) in his third
over. Dan finishing with figures of 4-2-3-3 and Andy 4-1-7-1
in a superb opening burst which reduced the opposition to
17 for 4.
First changeover saw Ed and Andy F into the attack both with
no return from their opening overs before Ed moped up the
final two available wickets (caught [Rich] and bowled) in
his second over. The bowlers returning a miserly 1.3-0-3-2
and 1-0-1-0 respectively at the close.
It must be noted that Dan did attempt to take their young
(I think he was about 10?) batsman out of the game with a
shameful display of 'Larwood' like bodyline fielding, striking
the young boy viciously which only seemed to spur him on (the
young boy not Dan) as he finished on 4 not out.
21 for 6 (all out) off 10.3 overs (Extras 7 - 4 wides; 3
leg byes)
With Mark's instructions that we needed to score the required
22 off 4 overs or less ringing in my ears Paul and myself
opened the batting.
Paul taking a single off the second ball we managed to score
8 off the first over followed by three off the next (which
was bowled by a pumped up 10 year old) in which I was dropped
behind. With 6 coming off the third over wides and a no ball
mainly took us to our required total of 22 off 3.3 overs with
Paul finishing on 3 not out and me on 13 not out.
22 for 0 off 3.3 overs (Extras 6 - 5 wides; 1 no ball)
Another rather disappointing game in shitty weather conditions
but at least we won it and, according to Mark, with maximum
points to show for it too.
Hopefully we can take this confidence into the next game
and get a positive result from a competitive game. We'll see
..
