The league competition of the Willow League reached its climax this past week, with two teams still in contention, South Glamorgan Education and Cardiff Casuals. With casuals receiving a walkover victory, the onus was on South Glamorgan Education to beat Consmen in order to retain their title.

Batting first, Consmen were initially pegged back by some fine bowling from Jack Lansdown (1-7), before Davies (13), Williams (28 ) and Deane (31) formed the backbone of a closing score of 106-9. Andy Parry and Tim Wegener each picked up a pair of wickets for Education.

In reply Education were quickly in trouble as a superb spell of 2-5 by Crowe saw the back of both openers. John Sparks (23) rallied the Education cause, in partnership with Neil Francis (14) and Luke Vincent (24no). Benefiting from a slightly wayward Consmen attack that yielded 15 extra deliveries, Education inched towards their target, despite a steady fall of wickets, with both Head and Dean picking up a brace. In the end, the ask from the final over was too much for Education as they closed 5 runs short giving Consmen the victory, but more importantly Cardiff Casuals their first Willow League title, after several runners-up finishes.

The focus now moves onto the Shield and Plate formats, with two titles up for grabs, with the Cup competition still to be decided after several weather delays.
