With warm sunshine prevalent, there was a full week’s action in the Willow League.

Joint leaders Eclipse Print looked to continue their good form against an unusually winless Cardiff Casuals. Batting first Eclipse struggled to 102-9 in their allotted overs; Niluka Ertane led the way with 27, backed up by 25no from Simon Elliot and 20 from Alistair Collyer. Matt Foote was the pick of the Casuals attack with 4-10. The Casuals reply benefited from a large number of extras (top score with 29!) as they inched their way towards the target. With 6 overs to go, the deficit was 52, yet some lusty blows from Dan Lewis (20) pushed the total to 100 as the innings closed, leaving Eclipse unbeaten, but damaging their average points tally.

South Glamorgan education took full advantage with a thumping 91 run win over Cardiff University Staff. A mammoth total of 183-1 was built around an unbeaten 111 from D Fortune, with P Richards’ 32no the other main contribution. Chasing such a daunting target was too much for Staff as all the Education bowlers took wickets, J Cartwright’s 39 was the top score in a reply of 92-8.

Cardiff Hockey took advantage to pass Eclipse for 3rd place with a comfortable 7 wicket win over Cardiff Bay Barbarians. BaaBaa’s set a target of 118-7, Darren Mogridge top scoring with 28. G George, 2-11, was the best of the Hockey attack. The Hockey reply was keyed by 60 from G Egan as they romped to the winning post in just 14 overs. Matt Clarke grabbed 2 consolation wickets, including that of Egan, but to no avail as BaaBaa’s couldn’t hold down the scoring rate on a fast Llanrumney pitch.

There were runs galore for Chartered Trust as they bagged their first win of the season over a luckless Consmen side. Having rattled up 155-4, courtesy of D Skirrow (62no), Steve Head (20) and a monstrous 38 extras, Consmen saw their total overhauled with an over and 4 wickets to spare thanks to 40 from Steve Mohring and 37 from his brother Craig, extras again made a sterling contribution of 30.
