Week 4 Match Report - Willow League 2009

Post by dan lewis »

It was a busy week in the Willow League, with games fitting in around the weather as far as possible.

Eclipse Print stormed to the top of the table with two emphatic wins, keyed by some strong individual performances.

Against Cardiff Cavaliers Alistair Collyer hit 62, followed by Mike Williams’ 76no as the main components of a thumping total of 199-3. Jimmy Marchant’s 2-15 was clearly the pick of a battered Cavaliers attack. I reply, Cavaliers own run machine, Andy Steadman cracked a fine 61, but Ian Court (3-27) and Matt Williams (4-16) ran through the lower order to bowl Cavaliers out for 150.

Cardiff Bay Barbarians were next on the chopping block, Collyer again in the runs with 51, supported by Matt Williams (42) and Luke Bonnelle (38no) as Print rattled up 178-6. The BaaBaa’s had no reply as wickets tumbled from the off, with Bonnelle adding 3 to his earlier runs, Andy Campbell grabbed 3 as well with Matt Williams adding a brace. Only Dart (18) and Mullins (22) reached double figures as BaaBaa’s were skittled for 61.

Elsewhere South Glamorgan Education helped themselves to maximum points with a comprehensive dismantling of Cardiff Casuals. Batting first, Education hit a run a ball to close on 127-5, keyed by Nick Allen (40) and John Sparks (36). D Thomas was the bright spot of the Casuals attack with 3-16. Casuals simply found no answer to the Education attack, as wickets fell cheaply and often. Andy Parry grabbed 4 and Tim Wegener took 3 as Casuals were routed for just 59.

Cavaliers bounced back from defeat with a comfortable 8 wicket win over Chartered Trust; 122-2 keyed by 67no from Jonathon Thomas, overhauling 121-4, keyed by 45 from T Ahmad.

Rhiwbina held on in a nailbiter by just 9 runs, over Consmen. Mike Street top scored with 34 in a Rhiwbina total of 129-8, with Parker snagging 3-12 for Consmen. Despite an unbeaten 54 from opener Blanford, Consmen otherwise struggled to get runs and closed agonisingly close on 120-6. John Davies took 3-25 for Rhiwbina.

British Airways knocked up 148-2 mostly on the back of 69no from Richard Humphries and 55 from Chris Davies, before holding on against Cardiff University Staff, whose 122-6 was anchored by 65 from S Tripathy. Lack of support from his batting colleagues ensured defeat.
