Week 9 Report - by Dave Powell

Post by dan lewis »

The Willow League managed to avoid much of this past week’s bad weather and fulfil the majority of the scheduled fixtures.

League leaders South Glamorgan Education cemented their place atop the pile with an emphatic 10 wicket victory over Cardiff Bay Barbarians. Batting first Barbarians were indebted to the cultured blade of Darren Mogridge (48 ) as they raised 102-6 in their allotted overs. J Clayton (2-5) and Andy Parry (2-17) were the leading wicket takers for Education. In reply, John Sparks cracked and unbeaten 55 accompanied by Paul Harding on 33no as Education cruised to victory.

With second and third place Cardiff Casuals and Sevenoaks HiFi victims of a late downpour there was a chance for other sides to move up the table.
Batting first against Cardiff cavaliers, Rhiwbina posted an formidable 144-6, boosted by a maiden club 50 by Ceri Morgan (56no), with D Cain adding 30 and S Lewis 25. J Davies (2-10) was the pick of the Cavaliers attack. The Cavaliers reply was never quite able to muster the impetus to reach the target, despite contributions from Andy Steadman (29) and Davies (21), as they closed on 115-6. Rhiwbina skipper Ashleigh Crowter led the attack with 2-15.

Action was rounded out by Cardiff University Staff overcoming Consmen in a tight game. Staff posted 118-6 and restricted Consmen to 108-7 to stay well in contention for a place in the fast approaching Shield competition.
