Post by dan lewis »

Cardiff Cavaliers took on Chartered Trust this past week in the Willow League, with Chartered Trust looking to bounce back from a slow start to the season. Batting first Cavaliers lost wickets early, with no batsman able to exert any real pressure until a feisty 29 not out from Matt Thomas lower down the order. Craig Mohring (2-11) and Steve Mohring (3-15) were the most successful Trust bowlers, but the support was responsible for a generous 31 wides, enabling Cavaliers to close on 130-8. In reply Trust were anchored by Steve Holton (35) as some friendly Cavaliers bowling failed to place any control on the scoring. Trust reached their first win of the season with 5 wickets and an over to spare.

Facing Cardiff Bay Barbarians, Cardiff Casuals saw only J Pike reach double figures, but his 41no anchored a total of 108-8. Matt Clark (2-6) was the pick of the Barbarians attack. A three wicket burst from Dan Lewis shattered the top of the Barbarians batting line up before Darren Mogridge held firm with 31. A late 3 wicket burst from Afzaal ensured that the Barbarians fell short of the target as they were bowled out for 90.

GE Healthcare played Cardiff University Staff at Llanrumney. Batting first GE Healthcare were put under early pressure by some tight bowling from Max Munday (2-12) and Roger Grovesnor (2-12). A 33 run partnership between Dave Powell (19) and Thomas Gane (11no) helped boost the total to 63-6 at the close. The Staff reply was built around a solid opening partnership between Cartwright (24) and Snehasis (36no) who took their team to the brink of victory before Thomas Gane (1-8 ) managed a consolation wicket, as Staff coasted to victory with almost 7 overs to spare.
