Match Report vs Clytha 16th July 2023 @ Llanarth (Skipper Rob, report Goffy)

What could possibly go wrong???

The Casz on an amazing run of form with only 3 losses all season. Normality would suggest that usually in mid July we would be on 3 wins! But not now we are playing our new brand of Caszball under the maverick leadership of Captain 'Mainwaring' Gaz ably assisted by Jim 'Stupid boy Pike' and backed up by Will 'don't panic! Jones!! A circa 80% win ratio as we turned our attention to Clytha!!!!

Hang on..... arrival at a windy but dry Llanarth pitch, but all the Home Guard were missing with only Sergeant 'Robby' Wilson left to get the remaining privates into some sort of game order. So to answer my original question.... a lack of batting in depth, a lack of bowling in depth, a lack of fielding in depth and SteveO!! Alas, so we inevitably failed to improve the win ratio but at least we made a game of it..... well sort of nearly made a game of it..... ok we provided the opposition....... ok we were there.

The toss was won and Sergeant Rob decided we would have a bat. Dave W and Stevie B opened up with instructions from Goffy that we would prob need a strong start at 10 an over and to get as many runs on the board early on knowing the batting to come. Backed up by the fact that Clytha wanted to give all their players a bowl so max 3 overs per person. Let's make hay! This message was obviously some what confused .... After 42 balls we were 18 without loss with first runs off the bat coming in the 5 over. Dave perished in the 8th (5) bringing Nirnay to the crease who TBF really wanted to get on with things. 18-1 moved to 75-2 when in the 17th over a bit of confusion led to Steve falling on his sword (18) trying to steal a run that wasn't there. Nirnay sent him back and he was stranded. A decent partnership of 67 which unfortunately by some distance was best Caszball could offer.

Nirnay (38) was bowled in the next over - a decent knock. So from overs 19 to 30 we had the customary pre-Caszball collapse with wickets falling at regular intervals without many added. Sergeant Robby managed double figures but was complaining that he couldn't see due to hay-fever in his eyes. Probably why he chose to keep wicket too!! We scraped to 113 for 8 off our allotted 30 overs.

D White Caught 5
S Biggs Run Out 18
Nirnay Bowled 38
Steve O Caught 9
Drucey Bowled 0 (now going for a debut hatrick)
Rob O Bowled 10
Tim BH Caught 3
Goffy Bowled 7
Nischay Not Out 6
Pabs DNB
Liam DNB

Tea was taken. Coffee club resumed where it left off last Sunday with a pretty decent Peruvian blend with honey under-tones.

We took to the field knowing that our only hope was early wickets very cheaply. To be fair, bowling and fielding was decent. Goffy opened with Liam and I think probably Liam's best bowling performance that i've seen. Kept a good line and length with the odd one short of a length which kept them honest and cautious. After 12 overs with both going straight through, we had them 38 for 3 removing their 1, 2 & 3.

Unfortunately we were unable to gain another breakthrough and the number 4 and 5 played well at a good pace and knocked off the remaining 70 odd within 25 overs.

Goffy 6-0-20-2
Liam 6-1-18-1
Nischay 4-0-17-0
Pabs 6-0-34-0
Tim BH 2-0-18-0
Drucey 0.3-0-5-0

A decent game nonetheless and a nice bunch of Oppos! But with only 113 on the board, the only distinctive chat that could be heard at tea was...."we're doomed I tell ye!"
